It had been a full week since I made it to the gym. I suffer irregular heartbeats. I've never been medicated for the condition, but regular cardio does seem to keep it in check.
So, I needed to go.
But where to fit it in?
After all, you know, I'm in the throws of planning a Tea for Fifi. There's service for 7 to wash, and lots of new linens to launder. (And yes, Barb, against my casual nature, I'm going to iron them. I'll be thinking of you.)
So, as much as I hated to step out after dinner and miss the evening reading by Husband, I donned my gym clothes and headed for the door. As is the custom every. single. time. anyone. leaves the house for any reason, Cuddlebug calls to me, imploring, "Can I wave goodbye to you?"
"Of course you can." And with that she skipped to the other side of the storm door as I closed and locked it on my way out. But I hesitated. It was clear to me through the glass that Cuddlebug had something to tell me. She was looking at her hand intently and I could almost see the wheels turning as she searched her verbal bank for the right words.
In that moment, everything seemed to slow down. I found myself waiting. Patiently. Cheerfully. It seemed such a long time since I took in a precious, common moment like this one. What would she say? What profound thought had drawn us to that shared moment of suspense?
Why was she looking at her little hand that way?
And then she looked up from her downward gaze, smiled that wonderfully wide, buck-toothed, dimpled smile and her golden brown eyes beamed as she proclaimed two words that just meant everything to her in the moment:
"Daffy Duck!"
It was today's vitamin shaken from the container just moments before, drawn at random and carefully deciphered.
And it was still a precious moment.

Precious is all I can say. love always me
The nice thing is that you're recording moments like this. How easily they are forgotten.
I'm sooo proud of you. It would be uncivilized to not iron those napkins. Beyond comprehension, actually. LOL
Lovely music playing. Fun little girl!
I have the harvest time getting going to the gym after dinner. But I MUST!! I much prefer afternoon, but they cut off babysitting at 1:00 until 4. Go figure.
How wise to take the moment and then have a memory to treasure. It is so easy to rush through life doing the things we just have to do and to miss those precious moments.
A lovely post.
Thanks so much for visiting. It is a delight to meet you.
A precious moment, indeed!
Can't wait to hear all about your tea party--we *love* tea parties around here!
And thank you so much for your prayers and concern this past week regarding my surgery. I'm doing great--praise the Lord!! : )
Oh, this completely made me smile! Precious post!
And both my girls do the same thing whenever I leave..."Don't forget to wave as you drive away!"
(I'll have to go see what kind of tea party you are doing...because for my oldest's eighth birthday in a couple weeks, we are having a little party at a tea room!)
Oh, how sweet that is. :) It didn't really matter what she said, did it? She just wanted to share her thoughts with you.
