Saturdays mean rise-and-shine,
start the coffee,
grind the Muesli,
and get the old iron griddles
good and hot.
Daddy's in the kitchen
and his girls are clamoring
for the spatula...
Until he relents to their hints
and pleas
and pecking --
and loads the classics:
Bugs and Daffy, Porky and Tweety and Foghorn Leghorn.
And they all gather 'round together,
and together they all laugh and giggle.
And every so often their giggles turn to a cackle.
All the while,
Mommy's lingering in her slumber
for just a few minutes more
before she's up at 'em.
And then her feet hit the floor
to accomplish her favorite chore.
New sheets on every bed:
the king, the queen and the twin.
Flannel in the winter,
Percale for the rest.
Hospital corners, nice and taut.
Fluff the pillows,
drape the canopies,
turn down the bedspreads in anticipation
of when large heads atop stick-thin bodies
and smelling of lavender shampoo,
will climb in between the polka-dots for a good night's rest.
They're readying themselves for
a meeting with the King
in the cool clean air of the morning.
When the feast is eaten,
and the dishes are done,
the day is rife with possibilities:
We might work
or rest or play;
we could visit a park to fly a kite,
or plant a garden,
or redecorate a room.
Saturdays are delightful days.

You know, you're absolutely right. Saturday IS the very best day of the week. Yours sounds like a little bit of heaven.
I love your writing style. You make things come so alive. Saturdays sound great at your house.
They just go too fast!!
Can I come for breakfast and cartoons? I agree with Free In Christ; your writing style either puts us there or makes us want to be there really, really bad.
Ah, Saturdays! Sounds like a lovely morning and day to be had. :0)
Divine. Simply divine.
Hope your Saturday was delightful in every way.
Sounds so nice!
And will you come by and change all my beds with hospital corners? It's not my favorite chore, but the way you describe is sounds so refreshing...you have such a way with words! :)
Beautiful and fresh!
What a beautiful morning!
How funny that as I write this, my hubby and sons are watching Volume 1 of Looney Tunes - giggling away!
Thanks for the peek...and hospital corners? How long would it take you to get here? ;)
Truly, I am inspired by your favorite chore. I really need to make changing the sheets more of a priority, and yet it is so hard to change bunk bed sheets. (I perhaps shouldn't mention that I don't quite recall the last time I did so!)
Elise ~ who longs to find the joy in a simple chore as Grafted Branch has done.
Oh Elise...bunk beds are THE WORST! I had 'em for awhile and was SO happy to finally be rid of them. They are near to impossible to make up. I feel your pain. ;)
