Works For Me Wednesday: Jingle Bells

'Tis the season TO BE JOLLY! Sometimes sounding as jolly as I feel is difficult over the operatic din of my three lovely whirly birds. A mother must be heard, right?

This is a $5 bell I purchased recently at Lakeshore Learning Store. It has a very sweet sound.

Amazingly, it's delicate ring can be heard over most of the (what's another word for?) noise that

my girls can muster. It can be deciphered to the far ends of our 2-story home and even across our 1/2 acre lot.

It has relieved me of my need to holler to be heard. Whether I'll be calling them 'round to bake cookies, wrap gifts, go shopping, or help with stuffing the Christmas card envelopes, the sound of this bell is much kinder than even my nicest (what's another word for?) yell.

I am relieved. They are too. I'm guessing most of the neighborhood is happier without the loud sound of my voice. It is going to be a sweet Christmas season.

Cute idea. My dad would whistle when he wanted to round up us kids.

Oh, I just gotta borrow this idea. I have yelled so much that my children no longer hear that decibel!
Thanks for sharing such a great tip!

That is so cute, and so much nicer than yelling (calling out?) I think it must be the higher, prettier pitch that gets through. Once, someone told me that a ranger said to always carry a whistle while hiking. You can yell your head off, and no one will hear you (or maybe pay attention) but no one can ignore a whistle. I think your bell follows the same principle.

We tried this and it didn't work with ours. However, we developed a system of claps (each kid has their own set and there is one to call all.) They know their claps even in a crowded playgorund or across the gym at church.

How great!

I actually just bought a bell today - one of the old fashioned kind with a handle that teachers used to call the children back to school - we found it at an antique store! Then I came to your site and that was your WFMW!

We will use ours to call our boys in from outside - we live in a rural area, so they can wander quite far, and I'm tired of hollering at them!

Great idea!

What an excellent idea! I would have never, ever thought of that. I'm tired of yelling, so I think I'll give this handy tip a try. Thanks for sharing.

We've got a bell we used to try and train our dog to ring when he needed to go outside. I might just have to use it to call the kids!

My "mother bell" is a little brass lady in a hoop skirt, my younger ones love to ring it and call the big ones from play. Now I just need a mini one for my purse... the clapping idea is cool, but not practical with an infant in arms!

What a cute bell! I can't believe it's so powerful without being obnoxious.

We've always used a sick bed bell but I've never thought about using it to call the kids. I'll have to give it a try.
