...if you claim Jesus but are entertained by plotlines that glamorize adultry, fornication, vanity and seduction, envy, deceit, murder or witchcraft.
I might be a hypocrite if I write this without admiting that I have muddied my mind with some -- though not all -- of this trash. My flesh is unwilling to commit to never watching them again, but my spirit knows there is no argument for nuetrality.
These plotlines -- these programs -- are against God and I will not be entertained by them anymore.

Amen! I remember as a teen being warned about the dangers of listening to secular music and thinking that it was all just a bunch of crazy talk, but now that I'm older and have teens of my own, I'm the one doing the crazy talking. It isn't only necessary that we guard what our children see and hear; we must also guard our own hearts and minds. ALL the time.
It's my sin that nailed my Savior to the cross. He shed His precious blood to cleanse me from the very sins depicted in what the world passes off as entertainment. When I think of what I've been capable of, it sickens me, yet I can watch it on TV or read it in a book without flinching? It should not be so! There is nothing trivial about separation from God. Sin is no laughing matter.
Yikes. I'm guilty.
I do watch some of those shows although I hate all the adultry and garbage that is on them... but I love the mindless break that TV gives me and the easy laughter. I wish there were better TV shows as alternatives. It is so annoying that we don't have more options.
But, I am guilty and I know it. I am sorry. I have cut back the amount of TV I watch drastically so that now I only watch a couple of shows... I will try to cut it back more.
Thanks for the reminder.
GB - You are a brave lady to be so honest and (((GB))) I love you for it! I take so much flack for my stance on stuff like that --- but it truly is horrible stuff. We've just been so desensitized and it has all become so normalized in our society...even among Believers.
Revival always begins at the personal level, and I think it often begins with strong convictions like yours.
Thanks, GB! I love how you always point me right back at my Savior!
In Christ alone,

Susan...I'm with you on enjoying the mindless break and easy laughter. 'Round here, we watch a fair amount of Andy Griffith reruns for that very reason.
I had to even rethink I Love Lucy for my impressionable girls, because the plotlines often include dishonor and deceit between husband and wife.
I am constantly reminded that the devil is still the subtlest of creatures.
*sigh* When I asked the Lord to help me think more like He thinks, He was faithful to show me...maybe more than I wanted to know! :)
I agree the more you pray to be like Christ, he does reveal. Sometimes it is hard revelations. I find as time passes he truly has taken the desire for some of those things away. For example, I used to love CSI. Then I began to have nightmares. Conviction came. It used to be I would have to turn off the TV before it even came on or I would be sucked in. Even if I only watched a minute, I could not turn it off. Today, I have no desire. A process. To be more like Christ, this I desire.
As I told my dear daughter this past weekend...what we put in our minds molds who we are. It is amazing how desensitized our culture has become and even as christians we just don't "think about it" anymore.
Grafted, I agree. It's so hard to find suitable stuff to watch. My hubby and I watch MASH alsmost every night and even then I find stuff that my heart says is not appropriate. I hate all the garbage that's on TV now. Not even commercials are safe anymore. When I was a kid, our family gathered around the TV at night to watch the nightly for TV movie or occassional sitcom. It was family time. Not anymore. I even edit the History Channel.
I've been thinking about this lately too. I think it is on a lot of people's mind and that is wonderful. We all need to be aware of what goes in and that it influences what comes out.
I enjoyed looking around through your site as well.
Blessings,
Karla
