Madame Director

I have long been struck by what seems so ridiculous -- my generation is now coming on board to be the one that rules the world. It's really scary! My contemporaries are now the surgeons, the legislators, the CEOs, the pastors and university professors. What really gives me pause *giggle* is that with some exception, I don't sense anyone really knows what their doing as much as they just talk a good game. They're just playing dress-up!

And now it's my turn.

Tonight, I was nominated and elected for a position on the Board of Directors of the early-music choir I joined last year. When initially approached, the Ms. Head of the Nominating Committee spoke of the job with a tone of great importance, but I laughed and stopped her mid-stream, explaining that I had already heard Mr. Artistic Director once speak of prospective members of this great and honorable office as "drones."

I may not know what I'm doing, but I'll learn. And I may have joined for the chance to sing, but I am not a diva. I am not above putting in a little time and effort to make this season happen. They've been warned about my limited daytime availability considering that I have three little girls that come with me almost everywhere I go. They think I have something to offer anyway. I'm really excited to be useful. I'm really grateful to be there! I'm humbled to be singing again.

So, you may call me Madame Director, or...you could call me Missy Drone.
