Little Things, Big Distractions

It was one of those days from start to finish.

Nothing truly horrible happened; and perhaps each link in the chain of events that did happen was really of no consequence, but compounded over the course of the day...and Husband and I are ready for an evening of good, old-fashioned, passive channel surfing where no one requires an answer, a spanking, a warning or a round of applause. (Two and Three are in the "show" phase of their girlhood.)

Just for fun, let's remember how truly unproductive this day was:

(1) Husband and I disagree rather loudly over how to handle the reschedule of an already rescheduled violin lesson because we're short one car.

(2) In returning the rental car on the way to church, we remember that we are supposed to fill the tank.

(3) At the fellowship lunch after church, I place two half-full cups of apple juice in front of Two and Three at the table, cautioning them to, "be careful not to spill these." As I make my way over and around the long, banquet-style set up to sit across from them, they spill one of the drinks all over the table and my bible.

(4) As I finish lunch, I watch One spill her apple juice all over the floor as she is heading to the trash can to throw away her paper plate. Apparently, this was her 2nd spill; I'm so glad I missed the first one.

(5) As we gather our girls after church, Three springs a murder-scene style bloody nose all over everyone's favorite pink polka-dotted dress. The other little girls at church were helpful with their discreet, "Eeeeww!" and "Yuck!" (3-year olds are people too! They get embarrassed.)

(6) Before dinner, One mistakenly tells Three to wash her face instead of her hands. Two screams for help because Three is now using foam-soap on her eyes. Good for her that she didn't open them.

(7) Three pulls the picky-eater routine at dinner, and Husband isn't having it. That didn't end well for Three.

(8) I sit down to match socks that have been accumulating in the corner of my laundry table. How does this happen? These are the ones left over after I matched all the pairs! Grrrrr!
