You already know that my big girls re in p.s. for reasons I decline to get into here, but you're right. Public school is a veritable manual on how NOT to win friends and influence people!
You know, you've posted some good stuff lately. Especially enjoyed the posts "A lesson in civics" and "I fold". I'd much rather read more posts like the aforementioned, than negative barbs directed toward the public school system. What about letting others follow their call? Be homeschool-positive, I always say!!
Anonymous...Negative? Did you interpret something negative? Against the public school system?
I was just stating a personal truth--I learned *absolutely nothing* about getting along with others in a positive way until I turned to God's word in my late 20s! At best, peer socialization taught me to scratch and claw and hate; how to victimize and how to be a good victim.
Your application of my personal truth is not my responsibility, but if it has caused you to think or reflect, then Jesus be praised!
Hey listen..."socialization" is the last stand that many folks against homeschooling take, and so I'm attacking the notion. You bet!
You're taking those attacks personally, apparently, and I don't know what to say about that because I didn't live your experience--only my own. If yours was better, good for you.
If the Lord should choose to ordain my circumstances so that my children ended up in public school tomorrow, they would not succeed in learning the fine art of socialization there; of that, I am sure. It would be a proving ground only, and the knowledge and wisdom to get along would come from the revealed Word of God and the power to succeed socially with such a diverse group of people would come from the Holy Spirit.
Hey gals, lay off GB. Sheesh. Can't a girl express an opinion without being condemned by "anonymous" commenters? And I LOVE how it's always the ANONYMOUS commenters who leave negative comments.
Great post, point taken, and I agree. I don't think you should be accused of misusing your words and the power they contain....you used no words at all!
I made it through PS fine... well, in one piece at least, but I hated it. I am amazed how my son who was in PS for Kindergarten, private for 1st grade and now at home in the 2nd grade is more socialized now than he ever has been. The great thing, it's not just him bringing home names of "friends", we actually know the whole family from different homeschooling co-ops and programs. Plus, he's not only socialized with peers. He interacts with people from 0-100.

God's word contains much teaching about the power of our words and the use of our tongues.
