Worth the Read....

This article by Sonny Scott, presumably a government schooler, about us.

"Methinks American middle-class people are uncomfortable around the home schooled for the same reason the alcoholic is uneasy around the teetotaler."

That was great! Oh so true.
Although that picture of grace and serenity in the grocery store? Um, I'm working on it ;-)

I'm going to link to you about this article on my blog. I thought that Scott did a fine job of stating the latent opinions of many non-home schoolers.

I read this a few days ago. I was curious about the whole feeling judged thing. Do my public schooling friends really feel like I'm saying they're doing something wrong? They don't portray that to me. Hmm...

To AsWeWalk...I don't think the article means to indict people on either side, individually and personally. I'm sure there are people in my life who send their children to government school, and feel some mild irritation toward me because of what I *represent* to them. But the irritation is misplaced; that's what I think the article is stating.

The irritation is really between them and the Lord.

And then there are the rare few who really *have* thought through their choices and circumstances and do what they do with all the purpose and confidence they need so as to *not* feel any bad feelings toward me at all just because of what I represent.

Clear as mud? lol.

And what, I ask is wrong with 2800 sq. ft. houses and Suburbans? LOL! I'm laughing becasue we just spent $100 filling ours earlier this week.

Seriously, it was a great article and it rings true. Why is the system attacking a form of education that is clearly a successful alternative? They're irritated like you said.

By the way, I drove that gas guzzler once this week: to the library and the tank's still full!! It really is the only thing that'll hold 6 kids (2 in car seats) and 2 adults, unfortunately.

Oooh..this was great. I had a good friend say to me just last week how he thought I was crazy to home educate until he saw the results. Then he said, "we always think something is crazy if we don't understand it." Too true. Thanks for pointing us to the article.
