Weekly Roundup: Thoughts I Thought and Things I Did This Week

Applying K9 Advantix to the cat, even by accident, and even for just a minute or so, will--hours later--result in a midnight trip to the veterinary ER, 2 nights in intensive care, and a lot of moolah. But you pay it--not so much to save the cat, but more so you can say you didn't kill the cat. And so the score still stands at Husband: 0 GB: 1

Two nights in intensive care with a staff of people who are living the childhood dream of working in veterinary medicine will spoil your cat silly, and finish the week looking like you fighting him for your late night snack of cereal and milk. There's nothing funnier than an emboldened cat that still has a fair amount of valium in his bloodstream and muscle atrophy to work out.

And, on a lighter note...

You'll get the principal of sharing through to young children best if you don't lecture with chapter and verse, but instead tell them about the time (just a couple of evenings ago, actually) when you were tempted to walk the treadmill for another 30 minutes just because someone asked you if you were done. Just don't forget to finish the story by telling them that because Jesus died on the cross, we have His power to overcome such fleshly sin, and in the end you wiped the machine down and disembarked with a friendly smile.

Also...

I think I'll be careful how dogmatic my opinion becomes about a government raid on a religious sect. The case seems always, eventually to be made with an equal dose of rhetoric as it is actual criminal offense. Now we're to sympathize with the prosecution because the women and children of the El Dorado FLDS compound had been taught that the outside world was sinful.

So, I'm half expecting a knock on my door at anytime.

And, in the homeschool...

I'm glad to have found a toned-down, way down, Charlotte-Mason-would-be-spinning-in-her-grave down, version of Homer's Odyssey. It was good for inspiring cyclops ketchup faces, as painted by Dumpling,

and an introductory archery lesson. No one got hurt, so...that was good.

Randomly now...

1500 mg per day of amoxicillin is hard on my stomach. It was yucky 17 years ago when I was in the hospital with pneumonia, and it has been this week too. I pray it works though, because I have no plan to put in place if it doesn't.

Which leads me to...

...kick myself for having missed the chance to develop and copyright "The Worst Case Scenario" game. Because imagining the worst is a talent I have.

And...

I emailed the winning entry, on Fifi's behalf, to her first photography contest on Wednesday. And then I drove to the post office to ensure a postmark on the entry form in time for the deadline date of Thursday. And then I had Husband drive downtown to the office with the entry fee that I forgot to include with the form on Friday. Whew. I'm glad that's over.

Frankly...

I'm glad there is just 1 more Tuesday dance class for Dumpling. She says she wants to play classical guitar next year. I wonder if she's ready for the work it will take; because once she starts, I won't be easy to let her off the hook.

And...

Now that Fifi--who is all about Ireland and Scotland right now--has discovered her clan according to my mother's mother's maiden name, I wonder how long it will be before she asks for red hair dye and green contacts?

Finally...

What is the chief end of ants?

Are you thinking of killing the ants???

As for Fifi....I am from the clan McKee! We found a shop in Salado, Texas years ago and bought my dad a tie that was from the family tartan. Very cool. Also, where I taught they had multicultural week and one day you were supposed to dress up like your heritage. Needless to say, in that area...I was the only one in a kilt. And it was cute! And as close to the tartan as we could find in the fabric store.
And on my mom's side we are Irish. But that's about all I know.

I, too, have a talent for imagining the worst!

Dumpling wants to play classical guitar? How wonderful! We are currently preparing intensely for my oldest's piano recital. I am so excited!

Looking forward to hearing how she progresses.

And I have no idea the chief end of ants. Why do you ask?

1. Glad the cat is okay!
2. Hope you feel better soon!
3. I also ALWAYS tend to imagine the worst, its one of my *worst* qualities!!
4. Call for bail if you get raided!
5. The treadmill story cracked me up--hey--whatever works to get a more thorough workout, right?! That extra 30 minutes would've been great! :)

Brenda--Fifi will be excited to have found a kindred spirit!

Terry--my ant farm has moved from intriguing to perplexing. They just keep building tunnels to nowhere, for no apparent reason. Talk about futile!

Missy--thanks for "having my back." :)

I finally found time to come over here and see what's been happening in your world lately, GB.

Two things. I could sit and look at the photos you post for hours. You truly have a talent for capturing the little things about your life and your girls and your hubby, I just enjoy sharing your world.

And the music. That in itself makes me just sit here and relax.

Because I've been here so many times before, I know I must have a nice hot cup of tea in hand when I visit you. Perfect. Your site, your lovely photos and the way you write, and a cup of tea.

It all adds up to a very nice visit.

Awww, the things we do for our pets.

Classical guitar?? That is amazing! I love listening to classical guitar. I have entirely too many cds of classical guitar. I'm glad you reminded me, I need to pull them out and enjoy once again.

Heritage studies are awfully fun. My husband ( who is 110 % irish) asked me to do a unit study on Ireland with the children one year. It was fascinating. I understand him so much better now. lol. And th history is so rich and "colorful". Amazing what you discover about a people. Never regretted the time and effort it took.

I'm glad the cat is okay. :)

I loved catching up with your family in this post...
Oh, poor kitty! You told the story SO well, though!

I'm lovin' this Chopin in C minor playing now...I'll have to have my eight yr old listen to it for her violin homework tomorrow!

Oh- about the motel fiasco...my husband strangely hadn't even thought of getting a refund for the one night until I mentioned it, but they gladly obliged. Should have tried for the whole stay, though...we're just TOO nice, I say....sigh. ;)

I loved all these little thoughts, pieced together like a colorful quilt. And it is nice to meet a fellow home educator! (Your daughters are truly beautiful.)

Well, it might be too late, but I'll recommend it anyway... Hunter was on a really strong antibiotic a couple weeks ago, and the doctor recommended he take Florastor -- it is a probiotic. He recommended it because the antibiotic Hunter was on kills not only the bad microorganisms, but the good ones in your intestine too. He said to take it in combination with yogurt that has probiotic in it to help keep him from getting intestinal discomfort (cramps, nausea, etc.)

Hope that helps!
