Brave, brave woman. I shall never (did I say never? Let me repeat... never!) post my high school yearbook pictures. Alas, were I to have spent four hours on hair and makeup, Snaggle-Tooth and Coke-Bottle would have overwhelmed the shoot, and Elise would shine through... shattering mirrors...
10+ years ago, Hurricane Floyd flooded our basement, and our high school yearbooks were lost in the mess. I can't say as I am TERRIBLY disappointed. I didn't spend but maybe 10 - 15 minutes to get ready for my pictures.lol.
Oh the things we thought were important back in high school. You couldn't pay me enough to go back. Ok, well maybe you could but you get the idea. Thanks for sharing that!
Madeleine...just to be clear, I spent two hours on hair and makeup to walk the 50 feet to the mailbox! I was the vainest girl I knew. Then or since. It would be embarrassing if it wasn't so ridiculous.

It's not that I'm not vain, but I think I've always been way too ADD to spend 2 hours on my hair or make up. I'm a wash and wear kind of girl I guess :)

Don't die, The Other Huse! lol. You know, I hadn't thought about tight rolling my jeans since the last time I did it, but it's all coming back to me now....
Fold the lower hem over vertically until the jean is tight to the calf, and then roll up twice to hold the fold.
I think I taught that to myself; it was one of my greater accomplishments during my young years. And unfortunately, I'm not kidding. :(
OK--you are all cracking me up! GB, all I have to say is those curls are amazing. Mine own high school curls were chemical and I was VERY proud of my senior pictures. The rest of the high school photos can go away forever. But, back to my senior pics--they aren't very close up on my face b/c my hair wouldn't have fit in the picture.
Sigh. I kind of miss perms. The only time my hair had any body at all.
And Rachel (The Other Huse)---lay off the 90's TV, huh? :)
Why don't you write a post about how many aspects of our culture encourage vanity, like the advertising industry for example. You could elaborate on how high school is a microcosm of our society, and how competition "to be noticed" cultivates an inordinate preoccupation with self image. Just a thought. By the way, I too was class of 86!

The real test would be to see the back of your head - if you were really good, you'd have nice, even foofiness all around. An amateur would be flat in the back.
I know you say you spent a lot of time on it, but it really looks "natural" and not hair sprayed stiff!!!Really it's beautiful. Can you imagine spending that much time now on our hair and such? I'm good if I get 5 minutes in a day to do it...if even that!!!! Seasons & life change....well, and priorities do too, eh??? Have a beautiful week....

I hate my yearbook pics because I always look like I just woke up and went to school (which I did). I thought I was being mature by not being vain like everyone else, but I just looked bad. It's embarrassing to go to my parent's house and see all the pics still out on display.
Wow. Looks good. I remember 'pegging' jeans. And the 'foof', or bang flip and spray - but maybe that hit a couple of years later... it took Brenda in the aforementioned 90210 to move that style on and I've always been grateful. A friend and I (in '91) went out to a rocky beach and took pictures of each other for our senior yearbook. I guess we didn't take it too seriously - but our anti-vanity had its own brand of pride and snobbery that was still distasteful (and sinful!). I liked the pictures though!

Oh, GB, I had some vain years back in the day, myself. But even so, my hair never looked this good! LOL
Btw, I just happened to post some pictures of me at age 14 in Disneyland...but it was just shortly before the big hair days...1977! ;)
