The Same Red Dress

Fifi and Daddy. Circa 2005

At 9 1/2, Fifi was about 2 years older than Dumpling was on her big night. I took the neck line apart and raised it up a couple of inches for the younger. I'll probably do it again for Cuddlebug in the next couple of years. Or next.

The dress was a thrift store find. If I remember right, it was $3.00.

Don't hate me because I'm thrifty.

I'm sure this is a silly thought but I'm feeling extra impressed that you were able to adjust the neckline UP! I mean the point is that there isn't any cloth there to begin with. :)

I can kind of see how you might do it by adjusting the shoulder seams... but then you get into the tricky sleeve area...

What a blessing for your girls!

Yes, Helen, the shoulder seams. That's what I *really* did. The dress was bought as a size 16! I think maybe it was an empire waist on a short skirt?

I said neckline because...I'm a genius that way, you know. ;)

And may I say...that was a very gracious correction--thank you. :)

I think what you did was great. It gives them all a special "heirloom" dress to remember that night. Now, one more little girl can breathlessly wait her turn :)

I AM IMPRESSED. You mean to tell me that you're a seamstress, too?

There's nothing wrong with being thrifty. We're supposed to be wise with our spending, right? :-)

I think it's something special that they can all wear the same dress for their big night with daddy. Wish I could be that crafty.

Ooops!
No correction intended. I was serious. :) I am impressed!

In my impatience I tend to walk away from machine sewing projects and don't come back for oh... maybe years.

Thanks for posting about this neat tradition in your family.

I'm impressed that you were able to fix the dress so well. I would never have guessed that it wasn't purchased as an exact fit.
And you get extra thrifty points for reusing it!!

I love thrift! And I love the dress and the idea that they will all wear it - how special for them and their daddy!

I would love to shop thrift shops, but I don't seem to have the patience - I know gals who dress like fashion plates for next to nothing - they're all tiny, though!
