It used to be that when America went to war, those who stayed home served the effort in other ways. Scrap drives, rubber drives, air-raid warden...
O.k., I'm quoting It's a Wonderful Life.
But only because war has never touched me, personally. I don't have any relative whose name is scratched in granite. And none of mine will be buried with military honors.
I have never had to say good-bye to my husband. Or to my daddy. I've never returned home after the grand farewell to an empty bedroom or an extra place at the table. I've never stood at the starting line of a 13 month marathon.
But this sweet woman is doing it right now.
It sure would be something nice if you'd stop by there and leave Ashleigh a greeting. And please...pass it on.

Your last post left me in wonder. Not in a bad way, but in a " don't hurry up and wait these years, live TODAY!!" kind of wonder.
You have beautiful pictures, reflecting the fact that you have beautiful daughters.:) Thank you for allowing us to walk with you through your pictures.
And I agree, war has not come to my door. Though my son was in the Air National Guard for almost 5 years, and when he signed up, they guaranteed he would have to go to the Middle East, for some reason or another, he never did. And I have to admit, I can't complain. I am grateful for those who serve, and thankful for the sacrifice of those left behind, I will visit and try to encourage.
We pray for our soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen every day. I've been an Army wife for four short years now and have been through so many deployments (both with my husband and friends' husbands) and it never gets easier.
Great entry. It warms my heart for a "civilian" to be so respectful and thoughtful of the soldiers and their families!
This is a wonderfully sweet entry. To be so loving toward another going through this season in life of missing someone she holds so dear. I pray for all those in harm's way daily. Thank you for reminding us of the need to continued to do this.....Blessings....Mary
Like you, I am thankful for the sacrifices of our brave servicemen and their families. And I stopped by Ashleigh's blog and told her so. Thanks for making us more aware!
I can, truly, say that I empathize with her (as my beloved has been away a little over 12 months so far) and I will be praying for her. Thank you for sharing. I've visited her blog before but it's been quite some time. I look forward to heading over there.
I hope y'all have enjoyed your week.
