Baby, It's Cold Outside

Today was a cold, gray day. And we had nowhere in particular to go. So...we didn't--go anywhere, that is.

Fifi worked on the map I asked her to draw from our reading of the Jules Verne adventure story, Around the World in 80 Days.

Dumpling is reading Sarah Plain and Tall. She doesn't think she wants to do it until she's in the thick of it with me sitting right beside her to force encourage her. I'm still trying to make a bookworm of her. But first, I need to get her to change out of her pajamas.

I sit so that I can see the words over her shoulder. Today, I caught a glimpse of different words.

I don't put my feet up because everything that is near and dear to Fifi is in the way. But I don't mind.

Cuddlebug? What ya' doin'? Aren't you supposed to be working on your flashcards?

Lunchtime read aloud. In their pajamas. Today we started E.B. White's The Trumpet of the Swan. We took in 5 delightful chapters by the warmth of the fire.

Intricate castles made of Math-U-See blocks. And still in their pajamas.

Praise the Lord! We're off to a great start with our new One Year Bible Blog discipline. Dumpling is snuggling up to Daddy as he reads about Jacob's last days and the prophetic blessing of his sons. I'm not sure why Dumpling changed into new pajamas. I think she must be trying to support my laundry habit.

And to all, a good night.

I remember these days well... and can't wait till I revisit them with my own precious ones.

Fifi is reading my all-time-fav-in-the-whole-wide-world book in the picture on your sidebar. After reading it 15 times, I stopped counting. :)

And am I completely insane in that sometimes I open your blog just to listen to Clair De Lune? It's very true.

I love the kids in their jammies! That is so often what happens here, too. Except that Mommy sometimes has HER jammies on at lunchtime as well!!

Your house looks so cozy and inviting. Maybe one day I'll hop a flight and come drink some tea with you next to that beautiful fire!! (Once I win the lottery--that I never play--of course!)

I love pajama days. They are my favorite kind.

And, there is something about a day that is wide open with no where to go. It's a gift.

Great pictures, GB.

I'm in my 12th year as a public school teacher. What a contrast (and I mean that in a good way.) Your posts such as these sure make a good push for homeschooling. The looks on the faces on the kids here that "have" to read sure look different from these pictures you've posted. We still don't know what path we'll choose for Lily...but we've got some time.

Not to be redundant, but you really do have beautiful girls! I think its great that your homeschooling affords them the freedom to learn in a relaxed, cozy atmosphere. Great pictures.

May I just say that you have the most lovely, inviting looking home? Between the way you guys live your lives, and the pictures I see of your house, it makes me want to be a little invisible critter in the corner, spying for the sake of emulating so much of what you do!

I feel so much better now, we are not the only ones who stay in their jammies till noon from time to time!

By habit, my kids are quick, out of their pajamas!
My daughter who is an avid reader, who loves classics including Dickens, and American Girl Historian books, and Little House books, Does NOT like Sarah Plain and Tall!

Mine too, Keri! By habit, out of their pajamas before anything else. But's that's why *this* day deserved its own post. :)
