So, we've been talking about youth groups, youth studies, and other places where innocent children might lose some of their innocents as well-meaning adults "serving the Lord" unwittingly introduce and seemingly validate a depraved culture in their effort to teach a holy life lived for and through a righteous Savior.
And as I did a little blog jogging through my Bloglines this morning, I came upon a post that reminded me of this sad day in our family. Before you whet your child's appetite for what the Christian book store has to offer in the way of Bibles, please hop over and read this post from Brenda!
Careful parenting, everyone!

We have to be so careful!! Thank you for this reminder.
BTW, have you read, "Raising Maidens of Virtue" with Fifi? You can buy it many places, but it's originally from www.booksonthepath.com
I know you're always on the lookout for good books...this is a really good one for you to consider as a mother-daughter study.
I'm sorry that your daughter's innocence was assaulted-especially from what should have been a safe book for her to read. I read Brenda's post as well. Why the push to supplement Scripture? I really don't get it- particlarly in a children's Bible.
I just read your past post about the children's age groups.
My husband is a big advocate of NOT putting children in these situations. Wether SS or youth group. For more reasons then one.
Our children are our most valuable treasures. Its our job to protect their value. Keep up the good work.

Hello! It is my first time to your blog and I was immediately shocked by this post. My nine year old has the children's version of these 'magazine' Bibles. Sigh. I need to look it over carefully and proceed with caution, it appears!
Thanks for enlightening me! I'll be back.......
I've been trying to leave a comment for the last two days. Please tell me if you can- Is this a problem with Blogger? Are they getting lost? Or, are you blocking them?
If you are, would you please tell me why? Honestly, I don't think I'm saying anything offensive. I actually agree with you!
No Tammy, I'm not blocking you at all, i haven't received anything...well, I got this one. Lady Laura also had trouble.
Please send your comment (s) again.
The world's hedonism seeps through the cracks of our homes; in the name of "relevence" must we now throw open the doors of our churches an welcome it? Where did all the grown-ups go? Doesn't anyone think it's our job to protect the innocent?
As for Brenda's post, I'm actually a little less alarmed than she is by that "Revolve" magazine format. True, it is deceptive packaging, but Revolve is actually a pretty good Bible translation. My wife gave some of them to the under-parented teenage girls who attend the youth group at our church, and those girls actually sat and read them on their own. Personally, I have no desire to carry a Bible mascarading as a teeny-bopper magazine, but seeing teeny-boppers reading the Bible is somehow encouraging.
Bob, I agree. I'm glad they are being read. That's good to hear--I just didn't really see the need. But, I don't live everywhere...
Thanks G.B. for sharing your sad day story. That's all I want to do is tell parents that they may want to read before they buy b/c I would have never thought it necessary.
LOL! Tammi...don't read anything into the mis-spelling of your name above. I was dictating my response to my husband 'cause he had my laptop and I was laying on the couch in a dead-tired stupor. He's more of a numbers guy. ;)
Anyway...repost, please. A few other (that I know of) have been eaten by Blogger. I'm not getting these lost comments in my mail NOR on my dashboard.
I had no idea. Thanks for the heads up!
She's totally right. The display of Bibles in my local Christian book store is completely overwhelming.
I'm sticking with my boring Bible.
~sigh~
So sad.
How can we be real surprised though when you see the dumbing down of Christianity right in our churchs.
Sin is now a "mistake" or "lapse in judgement"...
Praise God! God definitely led me to your site, and then on to the link you had, for a reason. The Bible Brenda wrote about is the very one my daughter and I selected last night!!! When I followed the link she had I was horrified to see the website answered questions about very mature topics... NOT the info I think my "tween" needs when she is reading scripture.
I am truly sickened, and at the same time grateful that I found this info now instead of too late.
Thank you!
Have you ever heard of the Glory Revealed Tour? It's a group of Christian musicians who want to see a renewed return to the Bible in this generation. I'm praying that this will indeed be the desire of the church today - a return to reading and understanding the Word of God.
Hi! I just came across your blog tonight. I wanted to let you know about free giveaways that I host every week at my site. All of the giveaways are from companies who make their products here in the USA! I don't make any money off of this - I just want to see more jobs stay here in America. Come check it out - and spread the word!
Thank you!
If we as parents would do our part, then no daughter would think they need any "extras" in their Bible. When will people realize that The Word is all they need?
And good for you and your husband standing up for your girls in the "study" situation.
So sad. I had no idea...my oldest is only 4, so we have yet to encounter some of this. I read Brenda's post as well - thanks for the link.
