And then the real fun began with the sight reading. It really wasn't that difficult, and I had been practicing with my little sight-singing series books, but again--frozen. Solid.
Pick a pitch...any pitch! I figured I'd have a 1 in 12 chance of being right.
After that, I don't think it mattered what my solo sounded like. I could have been Rene Fleming, but if Rene can't read the music and sing back a measure, what good is she?
So...no...I wasn't invited to stay tonight. Maybe I'll give it another try next year. Or maybe I'll just stay home and poke sharp sticks in my eye.
At least now I'm free to devote Tuesday nights to blogging.

Oh, GB. I'm so sorry! It sounds like a tough audition and I so admire your willingness to give it a go. Words like "singing back a random pitch" make my blood run cold.
I bet your girls and Husband gave you some extra hugs to make it all better. :)
Oh boy- been there, done that. I hate that if you can't get started, you just can't recover sometimes.
Well, more blogging time with us!!
I have to ask- what part do you sing? I'm a first soprano, turned contralto after singing through laryngitis in Europe one summer. LOL Other than classical, like Wagner, I think my fav piece ever was "Jabberwocky". Oh, and the Italian Echo pieces. And anything German.
Too bad we aren't closer :)
Oh, I'm sorry. I always sing in a random pitch, but I don't think that's a good thing in my case.
You'll get 'em next year.
I love Big Mama's comment!!
So sorry to hear you froze. I like to think that God has something bigger and better waiting in the wings for you. I don't mean to sound trite.
Sorry about your audition. What a bummer!
I wouldn't recommend poking sharp sticks in your eye, not that I've ever tried it. I have more experience with planks. Although, now that I think about it, sharp sticks might be slightly less painful.
Anxious to see what bigger and better plans God has in store for you!
Wait!! I need to go catch up...an audition? A stroke ...what?? Serves me right for being out of the loop....gonna go catch up :)
Ah, I'm sorry about the audition. You are a winner in my book for having the courage to go for it (spoken from the heart of a shrinking violet). I'm sure God has something else in store for your beautiful voice. Bless you sweetie.
I'm sorry, too about the bad audition experience. When you said for us to pray that it would get better or worse so that you couldn't do it at all....you meant BEFORE you got on stage didn't you? :)
Oh, I'm sorry...I get that way in that once I start freezing up, it's pretty much a lost cause for me for the rest of whatever I'm doing.
Maybe God has great things in store for you in other ways this year, GB!
Hmmmm. Not a pleasant experience you have endured! That sounds like a nightmare I have had at times - frozen with people watching! May the Lord give you an extra blessing today!
My vote is that you and Kelli need to get together and form your own singing duo. We'd add Big Mama in there, but I've heard she's already spoken for when it comes to singing groups... ;)
Ohhh, I really like Ashleigh's idea. Form your own group. Get Big Moma and Boo Mama to teach you how to podcast and then you can entertain all of us.
I would love to hear you sing.
AWW!!! That is just awful. I hope you are not too awfully upset about this.
I would not suggest the sharp sticks in the eye, it sounds pretty painful.
Have a better day.
I agree with Robin - methinks the Father has something else in store for GB... I'm sorry for your pain and confusion, though. Love and hugs to you!
