Finding Her Place In The Body Of Christ

Fifi woke with the sunrise this morning, dawned her denim skirt and long apron, tied her hair in a bun and covered it with the yellow snood she crocheted for herself last month.

No, I'm not kidding.

And no, I didn't know what a snood was either.

She was eager to make a 9 a.m. appointment with last night's dinner guests who have found themselves with a dusty house, too much to do, and surprise visitors coming for the weekend. They asked Fifi if she could come help.

They are, in fact, new here--so we don't hold it against them that they don't already know the answer to that question.

So early, I dropped Fifi at their home 5 minutes away, and she worked carefully and thoroughly for three hours, dusting and vacuuming. At noon, I got a call from the woman explaining that they were finished, and wondering if she might take Fifi to lunch? "Of course," I answered, "I know Fifi would love that!"

And she did. My sweet bitty baby is reaching that age where her father and I can confidently give up a little slack in the apron strings. She knows who she is in the Lord. And she has proved herself so capable that she's realizing her own usefulness in the Kingdom.

She must have felt so grown up, at 11-years-old, being out to lunch with someone not her mother, ordering queso on her burrito, answering questions like, "What do you find to be the most challenging part of being a believer?"

I say she must have felt very grown up because she finished her day tallying her tithe from the money she was paid for her labor. And the Lord will surely be pleased because she is the picture of a cheerful giver.

I wonder what it says about me that I DID know what a snood is? Oh, I know. It means I'm old! LOL

She is such an amazing girl, especially for her age. I'd be bursting my buttons if she were mine.

I don't know where you're finding the graphics you've been posting lately but they are all just adorable.

Only 11, and she is already more mature than so many adults I know! (I keep forgetting that she's not even a teenager yet.) God bless her, and her parents who have done their job so well. The Lord is surely pleased.

It sounds like your daughter is a sweet blessing to you and the Lord.

I do know what a snood is - I think I learned about that from a friend of mine.

:D

First of all, I knew what a snood was since I love the WWII era and they were very popular then!

And second of all...your daughter seems so incredibly sweet and mature for her age. I second what Brenda said!

And not only does it speak well of her, it speaks volumes about how you and your husband are raising her!

Blessings...and have a good Memorial Day weekend.
(And I am loving the music you have on here these days!) :)

I love the music you've put with your site!

Your Fifi reminds me of my niece Kylie. I think Kylie is a little older but they'd be fast friends.

ooooh I always get chill bumps as you write about the lovely little ministers in your home. How exciting to see Fifi growing into the young lady God calls her to be. Well done to her and to you!

How sweet! What a neat opportunity for your dd as well as the family she was able to bless. I need to encourage my oldest daughter (also age 11) to see where she can minister to people in the church body.

Thanks for writing!

Oh I love this--it gives me hope. I want so much for my girls and seeing a young lady at 11, being like your Fifi makes me so hopeful for mine.
And yes, I knew about snoods--cracked up when I first heard that word!
