Can You See What She Sees?

Long lines at Costco this afternoon. The girls and I loaded up on this blustery day to get one of its 6-head packages of Romaine lettuce but managed to walk out with...you know...a lot more. I'm happy that some Christmas gifts were found at a good price though, and the 400 sq.ft, double-sided wrapping for under $9.00! A great deal -- I think.

When the girls first heard that we were getting ready for the errand, Cuddlebug came to me with her little wallet carrying a $5 bill and said she was going to bring it to the store in case we stopped at the snack bar. I told her that I would probably buy her a churro.

She looked at me a little resigned, as if I had just given her a command to keep.

"Cuddlebug, would you like a churro?"
"Yes. Can I buy one?"

"Well, sweetie. I'm happy to pay for your churro."
"But can I buy it?

"You want to pay for the churro yourself?"
"Yes."

"Oh, o.k. Well, you have enough money there. You can buy it if you want to."
"Yay!" *big grin* "I never bought anything before!"

She really enjoyed giving her order at the counter and getting her change. Next in line was Dumpling, who ordered the same, except that she used exact change -- $1.08 -- and has not yet been able to get past the fact that Cuddlebug got money back and she didn't.

Back to the checkout. We had a lot of items, mostly boxed things like Christmas cards and gifts. Space on the cashier's belt was slow in coming so as I fumbled for my Costco card and payment, Fifi was doing her best to make it all fit,

"Stand this box up this way, lay that package horizontally there, that one will fit best vertically."

About midway into loading our items, she looked at me and smiled and declared, "I'm playing Tetris!"

I love that girl.

It's funny to read about the differences in how the girls paid and reacted to their change - all unique to their ages, I suppose!
You're doing such a great job, cause your daughters all sound so sweet!
I miss Costco. We live far far away now.
