- Fifi has itty, bitty ears. Dumpling is more well-endowed. I sometimes joke to Husband privately that Fifi left some of her lobes in my womb and Dumpling picked them up on her way out. Fifi can wiggle her ears. I asked her to do it for me at dinner tonight, and then asked Dumpling if she could do it. She carefully swept her hair behind her ears, but found that she couldn't. Fifi mumbled under her breath, "that's because they're too heavy." Ha ha ha ha! And no, Dumpling didn't hear her. (And no, Fifi meant no malice.)
- Dumpling's prayers in the evening sometimes sound more like a memory verse, but the other night she asked God to please tell her why the little stuffed puppy at the bookstore cost $6 a couple of months ago, but now costs $8?! Poor baby. She's going to have to save up her "pieces or money" for awhile longer.
- Dumpling and Cuddlebug were playing "washer women" outside in the heat of the day -- little ponytails bobbing, knocking on the back door for ice water every so often. When I saw that they were washing their figurine horses in a small tub on the dirt, rather than the lawn, I stepped out and asked, "Why? Why not do that on a patch of grass?" Dumpling explained that this way the horses had a river! What a mess!
- The other morning, we were reading in our science curriculum about light and color. When we tried to understand about objects absorbing the colors of the rainbow except the hue we perceive, we talked about the grass, "So then the grass you see as..." Dumpling interjected, "Yellow?!" Yes, the drought in South Texas is so bad that my 6 year old doesn't know that grass is supposed to be green.
- Yesterday at Costco, Dumpling was carrying a small bright green piece of silly putty in the palm of her hand. It was about 1 inch long, very thin with a kind of bulb at one end. It was so small that I wondered if she was maybe waiting to come across a trash can in which to toss it. It looked like it could have been mistaken for, well...something gross, so I asked her, "What is that?" Fifi spoke up, "That. Is her rattlesnake." Oh. Okay then.
- This week's lunchtime read-aloud has been The Cricket In Time Square. On Thursday, we came across a mention of the Blue Danube Waltz and I apologized for not knowing the tune off the top of my head. And then Fifi began to sing it! I was amazed. "How do you know that?" She replied with what has become a fairly common answer around here, "From Daddy's Classic Looney Tunes DVDs." *big grin* She's lobbying for it to be our educational curriculum, and it probably could be -- but that's another post for another day.

What fun stuff! Thanks for a good chuckle this morning.
The grandkids definitely like to graze in Grandma's cupboards for snacks. But yesterday was particularly funny, since little 2-year-old Feisty got involved.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, it was so sweet. And I just came up with the most amazing idea for you. Why not give the kids some cans of bright green spray paint and let them get after that yellow grass! Those children should know that grass is supposed to green. And really, you could call it art class. Couldn't you?
What I loved about this is it reminded me how kids can entertain themselves with the simplest little things, like a miniscule piece of silly putty. We big people should try to remember this.
Ah! Barb! LOL! Such a funny idea, but my first thought is, "Good grief! Have you MET Dumpling and Cuddlebug?" I'm pretty sure if I sent them out with green spray paint for the lawn, I'd then have the only green HOUSE on the block. ;)
Just saying "hey" as I catch up on some of your posts...and also wanted to tell you that my friend EK loves loves LOVES your blog. She talks about you all the time. :-)
You are blessed with beautiful daughters. Very femine also. Keep up the good work.
Melissa
Thanks for sharing! The videos are great! I will show my kids your "washer women" tomorrow! They will be doing that soon also!
Your daughters are wonderful!
Too funny about the color of grass being green! :) And I remember hearing many a classical tune for the first time as a kid on some Looney Tunes cartoon!
What a neat video, by the way...they look so authentic! (I mean, I know they are authentic, I mean...well, you know what I mean!) ;)
Thanks for visiting me. It was funny that you said we didn't have anything in common. :0) I decided to take that as a challenge to see if we did, so I looked up your profile, for fun, & looked for things we did have in common. I was going to email it since it is so long, but see no address for you. I really hope you don't mind if I put it here in your comments. Is there a rule about not using too much space in comments? I hope not!
Okay, here goes. I am a wife and mother. I was a home educator last year. I am from the south, too. I am a bible-believing, born-again Christian. I have been very happily married to my husband for 15 years. We have three boys (one is 4!) I have a few good and Godly friends. I have been NOT been losing the same 30 pounds now for a decade. It is simply hanging on. I am a night owl, but all my boys are early birds. I struggle against a fantastic imagination - not for creativity, but for fear and worry, but thankfully my husband has helped me with this tremendously. I wish I could play an instrument, and I wish I could sing. My husband is my number one non-fan! I could list ten of your interests as my own, so that’s not a bad number. You are right as far as music and movies go, we have nothing in common! I must say, please don’t hate me, “Groundhog Day” is one of my all-time least favorite movies! Sorry! :0)
Ha! Chappyswife...you got me! We have the most important thing in common -- our faith. Thanks for visiting. Really? You don't like Groundhog Day? ;)
Nope, sorry. But Chappy loves it. Does that count? And the Nascar thing? I've only recently started blogging about it, so please don't think my site is saturated in it! It's just one of my many hobbies. Well, okay, a very big one, but one the whole family enjoys.
