Piano Lesson

Today was Dumpling's first piano lesson. Actually, it was her first anything lesson! She's not the type of child who bores easily, so hyper-scheduled lesson times have not been necessary to keep her engaged. (Good for her, because Mommy's not playing that way!) Besides, I don't know anyone who actually gives lessons on how to be a horse, which is what Dumpling and Cuddlebug spend a lot of their time pretending.

Fifi is also learning to play the piano, but it's not the same milestone since she's been playing and practicing violin for 6 years. She's excited to learn a new staff, but will have to practice really hard to remember that in piano, "3rd finger" is your middle because in violin, "3rd finger" is your ring finger. She came away from the lesson playing Mary Had A Little Lamb -- on two hands! With harmony!

A dear friend from a half-dozen churches ago is a private teacher who makes the rounds. That's right! I found a teacher who makes house calls, and is actually less expensive than any other teacher of anything, anywhere, ever! I am feeling pretty spoiled right now. I looked at her car in my driveway this afternoon and thought, "Oh that car? That's just my piano teacher's car!"

Aaaahhhhhh! Woooooohooooooo! ha ha ha...ahem.

Did I mention that Mrs. Piano Teacher is also really, really nice; and genuine; and a believer? Oh, and generous to a fault? I'm already planning a really great Christmas bonus because she is just too good to be true.

A good piano teacher is a blessing.
(I've had both good and bad and good is definately the best.)
Enjoy all the music.

That's so great! My Tiffany had her first "official" piano lessons yesterday too! (not counting the ones I've taught her) And what's fun is her teacher is Mrs. Tiffany! :-)

Comes to your house??? If I didn't see the pictures, I wouldn't believe it. Way cool.

Yes, mine offered to come to our house too, but with 3 other litle ones, it was way way too distracting. Big sister has to have her time to stay focused without interruption. :-)

Yes, she's awesome, thanks Grafted, for giving her my number! When the boys had their lessons on Monday I really enjoyed having Claire down for a nap and getting to spend some uninterrupted time with Hannah working in her preschool workbook together. It was a nice time and I can't wait until next Monday when I get to spend another hour with my Hannah Banana while Claire sleeps and the boys are actively engaged in their lessons!

And having her come HERE is SUCH a blessing!!

I did a blog about starting piano lessons at age 7, starting to play for church when I was 8 - tiny church, dad the pastor, no pianist. Been on the piano or organ bench ever since - 50+ years later!

Just read your comment - love it! There also is a reason that children are born to the young!

I worked at a middle school for a few years. I started there before school started one summer and thought, "Well, this is going to be fun - nice office, good co-workers, etc, etc." Then - school started! Oh, my word! The air just buzzed with this energy level that was totally exhausting. I didn't last there very long - I got a job working with master's level students - more my speed!
