Today was another work day around the house; but before I donned the work clothes and began to paint the doors and baseboards with wreckless abandon, I needed to do some shopping. Ugh. So, I got dressed, fixed my hair not half bad, and put on a little make-up. I wasn't polished enough for a nice evening out with Husband, but did feel confident enough to start my rounds with a stop at Starbucks for a green tea frapaccino...and not the drive-thru, either. Yum.
My first stop after that was the do-it-youself home improvement store. I was without my girls when I came across a younger mother with a couple of toddler boys dressed alike in the window dressing aisle. I was still feeling presentable enough to openly associate with others in public, so I struck up a conversation with her and asked, "Are they twins?"
She smiled back (because this is Texas, and that's how we do things down here), "Yes, they are."
"Oh, that's fun. How old? 3? 4?
"They're just about to turn 4. And they're very excited about getting presents."
"Sweet. I only have girls. Three of them -- and they actually pray for twin boys."
"Really? Are they all pregnant right now?"
*blank stare as I take in the full impact of the meaning of her misunderstanding*
"No...no. My girls are still little...yada, yada, yada, (pretending she didn't just say that) blah, blah, blah..."

GASP
Ok, I'm now coming up for air!!!
ROFLOL (but not AT you, though)
What was she, like...16??? Oh, oh.....that's just awful! Good for you for maintaining your composure! YOU do NOT look like you could be anywhere CLOSE to being a Gramma!!!!!!!!
Do you mean that in 7 yrs people are going to say that to me too???
Let's give her credit/ dispensation for being completely fatigued and sleep-deprived as the mother of twins. WHATEVER!! Yikes.
Okay, so switch from Green Tea to the REAL Java Chip Frapaccino...you deserve it!
Somehow I'm certain she misunderstood!
THIS is hilarious. *Joy pats GB on the back for her quick thinking and not leaving that (ahem) "poor" woman totally humiliated*
Not so sure I would have been so gracious *evil grin*
Cute story.....gave me a good chuckle. :)
GASP! I cannot believe that someone was that dumb. She must've been an Aggie. Don't worry, she must've assumed that your girls were grown since they were the ones that requested twins. There is NO WAY you look old enough to be anyone's grandma.
I bet she felt like a complete idiot after saying that. Kudos to you for handling it so well.
