Roses For You

"There she is! There she is!" This was the delighted cry of Two, who first spotted Aunt #1 and Tia coming out of the gate area at our airport. Each of the older girls held in her arms a dozen red roses to give to the ladies -- Two had practiced saying, "Bienvenidos," at least 50 times in preparation to greet Tia. One was going to bestow her roses and a big Texas welcome on Aunt #1 and Three was contented to hand the ladies a pack of bubblegum knowing full well they wouldn't actually chew it, but would likely share it back with her (it was either that or another dozen roses). They found the humor in it.

Unfortunately, in her delight, Two ran to the woman not assigned her and sort of turned the whole welcome plan on its head. It didn't matter. From the moment she did finally welcome Tia, she cleaved to her! In the car, she talked and joked and told stories to the kind and lively Latina -- the fact that Tia doesn't speak any English and therefore couldn't get a word in edgewise was "A. -- O.k." with Two! The more room for her to delight herself with the sound of her own voice. A fun, new playmate with no need to express a dissenting opinion! What more could a 6-year old need?

We all had a nice lunch together at a local cafeteria and then ended the day just being together. Tia even got down on the floor to play the very loud game called Hungry Hungry Hippo!
