Happy Father's Day

It's hard to have Father's Day when Mother doesn't take you out in advance to purchase a gift. This morning, when news came to the smaller girls that today was Father's Day, there was a hurrying and scurrying by Three to draw pictures; by Two to present other scavenged gifts (more on this in a second); and by One to prepare breakfast in bed. While the girls were storming in and out, Husband asked me to lounge with him -- he wanted me to stay with him. Just lay around in bed? Yeah! I can do that...for you. *wink*

During one of Two's many trips to her daddy's bedside, I heard this exchange:

"Here Daddy. Here's a present for you."

"Oh, thank you, Two."

"Be careful, because she's a breakable doll. I noticed you never had a baby-doll before."

"Oh, but I do. I have Mommy."

*playfully disgusted scoff* "She's not a baby-doll!"

Poor Two. She's much frillier and femine than I have time for. From the time she could walk, she's been drawn to examine women with long, polished nails -- fingers or toes -- and has had a great appreciation for jewelry and dresses. And if you're wearing a hat? Oh, my! You must be somebody!

I think I'll go dab on a little make-up and make myself more presentable, for her sake.

Here's Father's Day 'round here:
