This month...
One continues to practice her newly-learned knitting skills. A friend is sharing knitting lessons given by her aunt, Mrs. Draving. Mrs. Draving is a sweet, godly woman with a gentle countenance. I'm glad the Lord has seen fit to put her on One's path. One has also been working with Husband to sand and repaint a kitchen hutch for me. It looks great, and I'm glad to have it!
Two is reading very well; she is on lesson 72 of "100 Easy Lessons..." She also has become proficient at making toast, though by her own admission she has trouble remembering to remove the knife from the butter dish before putting it in the microwave to soften the stick. I have a feeling that's going to cost us a new appliance sooner than later.
Three is really coming into her own. I'm able to understand her a little better lately, though she continues to suck her thumb until she sees me come into the room. She, too, is learning to read! I certainly hadn't planned on teaching her for a couple of years, but she really desires to learn, is on lesson 7 and doing well. I have decided to continue until, and if, she gets to a concept that is too difficult. One likes to remind me that Clara Barton read when she was three years old.
We have left off memorizing Psalm 34 now, and are instead taking up some key Proverbs as they come up in calendar order. I'm considering finding an Awanas class next year, instead of BSF.
We have finished WWI and the Roaring 20s, and are gearing up to move into the Great Depression and WWII in the coming weeks. I haven't decided how to handle The Diary of Anne Frank. I've not read it myself, and would like to, but don't know that it's going to be age appropriate for Two and Three; I may have to let One use it as a reader and tell me all about it.
All of us are incorporating more science, and today we learned that Mercury is 1/3 the size of Earth, orbits the sun in 88 days, but takes 59 Earth days to rotate once on its axis. It is a terrestrial planet, as opposed to gaseous.
I'm so smart now that I'm in 5th grade!

"The Diary of Anne Frank" is really intense and has mature themes in it. I would recommend that you wait a while for One to read this also. You might read it yourself first; it IS a great book!
